Another item from Ricky Young, Quality Artifacts, Springfield, Vermont. Antique Peter Grey Boston 4-Way Railroad Switch Signal Lantern, Rutland Railway.

The top is marked GB Gray Boston, made by. This lantern comes with a fount tank and burner assembly as shown (unmarked as far as I can tell).

The glass is 2 x yellow / amber, and 2 x blue. The blue ones are ribbed, and the amber ones are scalloped on the front, and all are fresnel on the rear. The amber glass on the slide-up door has a small hole on the front with a generally conical shaped backside, which I believe is a BB hole.

It is not very obvious unless the lamp is illuminated. The other lenses are are unbroken. The amber lenses are marked Spreadlite.

Go lantern that would have sat on a track switch, rotating one way or the other to indicate proper traffic flow. The lenses are hooded as shown. Attached to the bail handle is a Rutland Railway Corporation tag (Rutland, Vermont), which is torn and crumpled somewhat. The owner of this lantern related to us the following story: This man's father bought this lantern from a local doctor, who's father was given this lantern (and another we have up for sale) by a friend of the family who worked for the Rutland Railway when it closed c. We are told this lantern was used by the railway, but the tag attached is the only remaining evidence of this, so you will have to be the judge of that.

The lantern itself is not marked Rutland. The lantern is very heavy duty in construction, and well made in my opinion. The top part is hinged and works fine. There are a few points of wear from age and normal previous use as shown, so please see the pictures. The tank and burner assembly appear to be in great shape, but I don't know how well it works.

It doesn't have a chimney, but it appears to have a chimney holder attached. 16" high x 9" wide x 9" deep overall excluding the bail handle, 19-1/2" high including the handle. Unpacked weight & size: 11.40, 16x12x9. Packed weight & size: 18, 20x16x13. In many cases you may not even need to return it.
