DIETZ #39 XLCR RAILROAD LANTERN Green EB Globe
Offered is a unique piece of railroad history; a Dietz XLCR tall globe railroad lantern with a green extended base lantern globe. The frame is a single guard bell bottom with a drop out pinch pot style fuel fount. The lantern frame is in excellent condition with nice clean metal, lots of original tin, no major dents, bent, broken or missing parts and all joints are tight.
The pinch pot fuel fount and threaded burner are in excellent condition, fully operable and would hold fuel and burn if desired. The wick easily moves up and down when the adjuster is turned. The green extended base lantern globe is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or cloudiness. There are no markings on the lantern globe. As with any globe that saw railroad service there may be the usual no show nicks on the top and bottom rims that wont show when the globe is seated in a lantern frame. This lantern came from the collection of Ray Piltz, who was a well-known Locomotive Engineer and collector who worked for the McCloud River Railroad, a logging road in Northern California. It is believed this lantern may have been used on the McCloud, as they did not use marked lanterns and this one has remnants of a serial or control number stamped on the lid.
