Offered is a unique piece of railroad history; an El Paso & Southwestern tall globe railroad lantern with a Clear CNX lantern globe. The frame is an Adams & Westlake 3 piece top Reliable, single wire guard, drop in fount style and is embossed on the shoulder EP&SW.
The lantern frame is in excellent condition; clean metal, stands straight, no extra holes drilled, dents, bent, broken or missing parts. The frame has a last patent date of 1913. It comes with a correct A&W threaded fount and brass Adlake 1909 threaded burner.The fount and burner are full functional and would hold fuel and burn if desired. The Clear lantern globe is in excellent condition and free of damage such as chips, cracks or scratches. It is cast with the CNX logo, indicating it is an earlier globe made by Corning Glass. There are the some bubbles in the glass from when it was cast and as with any globe that was used in actual railroad service, there may be some minor roughness on the top and bottom rims that will not show when the globe is seated in the frame. El Paso and Southwestern Railroad. The line had extensions across the international border into. The railroad was known as the. Arizona and South Eastern Railroad. For most of its life it was controlled by Phelps Dodge to support its mining operations. The EP&SW acquired the El Paso & North Eastern in 1908 and was itself acquired by the Southern Pacific in 1924. It became part of SPs Sunset Route and portions are still operated today by the Union Pacific which acquired SP in 1997.
