MILWAUKEE ROAD CM&STPRY RAILROAD LANTERN Clear Cast EB Lantern Globe

Offered is a vintage piece of American Railroad History , a Milwaukee Road Railroad Lantern with a Clear Cast Extended Base Lantern Globe. The frame is an Adlake Reliable, 3 Piece Top, single wire guard, drop in fount version with a last patent date of 1913. It is embossed on the shoulder CM&StPRY , which stands for Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul , the corporate name used by the Milwaukee Road before the Pacific Extension was added in 1927.

There is an Inventory or Control # 371 incised on the number pad on the lid. The lantern frame is in excellent condition; nice clean metal, stands straight, has no extra holes, dents, bent, broken or missing parts. The lantern has a threaded fount and a brass ADLAKE Burner (takes a 7/8 flat wick).

The wick easily adjusts up and down when the adjuster is turned, and it would hold fuel and burn if desired. The Clear Cast Extended Base Lantern Globe is in excellent condition, free of cracks, chips, scratches, or cloudiness. It is nicely cast in large serif style letters CM&STPRY, a nice match to the lantern frame. As with any globe that was used in actual railroad service there may be some minor nicks on the top and bottom rims that will not show when the globe is seated in the lantern frame.

The Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad as it was known prior to 1927 or the Milwaukee Road, began operations in 1874 and was extended to the Pacific Coast in 1927 and the corporate name changed to Chicago Milwaukee St. The Pacific Coast Extension was abandoned in 1980 and what was left was absorbed by to SOO Line in 1986. The SOO is now a fallen flag as well and is now part of CP Rail. Be sure to view all photographs closely as they are part of the item description.
