Very Rare Newark lantern Works conductors brass lantern pat. Date 1866 153 years old. The reference book "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Railroad Lighting Volume 1 The Railroad Lantern" shows no pictures and has very little in the way of information on this company. They do say that this company produced conductors lanterns following the Civil War. Walton were the proprietors of Walton Brothers Hardware on Warren Street in New York. They believe that a tinsmith shop was part of their hardware store. A second business venture of William H. Walton was the Newark Lantern Works.
They state they have no pictures or information on this venture. Well, wonder no more this the only one I have seen in 35 years of collecting lanterns. My guess is that very few were made and even less survived since the Civil War making this a extremely rare model.
