Fount & burner are fully functional; wick easily adjusts up and down, and would hold fuel and burn if desired. The Clear Cast Six Inch Tall Extended Base Lantern Globe is in excellent condition and is free of chips, cracks, scratches or cloudiness. As with any lantern globe that saw railroad service, there may be some roughness on the rims which will not show when the globe is seated in a lantern frame.
It is difficult to find a matched set in this condition as the six inch globes were prone to breakage and most six inch frames offered show up with either a broken 6 or a common and incorrect 5 3/8 tall corning style lantern globe with a smaller diameter non-extended base. The Southern Pacific used predominately six inch hand lanterns prior to 1900. The Southern Pacific Railroad existed from 1871 until it was taken over by the Union Pacific in 1997.
