Antique C&O RY Lantern. Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. 1913. Cast Tall Globe. RARE

Clear Cast Letters Tall Globe. Interesting old Lantern in "as found" condition.

Never cleaned, polished, de-rusted, or "tampered-with". It came out of a Lean-to Shed attached to a Barn where it had hung probably for years exposed to the weather. It has quite a bit of surface rust, but no rust-through areas anywhere on the Lantern.

The main areas of Rust are on the Top of the Lantern and the bottom of the Pot.. There are no Dents or Frame issues.

The large Letters in an oval Slug Plate Cast Cnx C. " 5-3/8" Globe is absolutely Perfect (there is a little rust stain along the base that will easily clean off). Like I said, it is "as found" and totally original. Some Lantern Expert smarter than me will know how to carefully remove the Pot from the Frame during the restoration process.

I'm sure, that after all of those years of being exposed, the Pot is probably attached pretty tight. This is a pretty rare Lantern that surely can be restored by some competent collector who knows what they are doing. I'm not going to try it... I'll let the new owner do that. It will be extremely well-packed and INSURED.
