CENTRAL VERMONT RAILROAD 1883 LANTERN CV CVR CNR CANADIAN. Central Vermont Railroad (not Railway) late 19th century (approx 1883) railroad lantern made by the RR Signal Lamp and Lantern Co.
Which was the predecessor of Armspear (20th Century). The Lantern is in good to very good condition, it as no extra holes or any cracks or outside rust. The glass fount, which is in good order, with the right Kind of Burner, was made for signal or lard oil. The reason for glass, it is said, is the corrosive nature of some of these non-petroleum oils which would rust a tin plated fuel pot.
The globe is a period type lipped clear glass, with no makers mark or railroad initials and it is in good condition.
