CHICAGO GREAT WESTERN RAILROAD LANTERN Signal Yellow CNX Lantern Globe
Offered is a vintage piece of American Railroad History ; a Chicago Great Western Railroad Lantern with a Signal Yellow or sometimes called Amber Lantern Globe. The frame is an Adlake 400 Kero (takes a 7/8 wick) and is embossed on the shoulder CGWRR. The lantern frame is in excellent condition with nice smooth metal; retains most of its original tinning, stands straight and has no extra holes drilled, major dents, bent, broken or missing parts. It comes with an Adlake 400 fount and burner which is in working order. It would hold fuel and burn if desired.
The wick easily moves up and down and the fount still contains its original factory wadding. The Signal Yellow or Amber Lantern Globe is cast ADLAKE KERO, CORNING, and MADE IN USA.
The lantern globe is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or cloudiness. As with any lantern globe that was used in actual railroad service there may be some minor rim nicks that will not show when the globe is seated in a lantern frame. The Chicago Great Western Railroad , nicked named The Corn Belt Route , was a mid-western Class I Railroad that connected the cities of Chicago, Minneapolis, Omaha, and Kansas City. It existed from 1892 until being absorbed by the Chicago & Northwestern in 1968.The Chicago & Northwestern Railroad existed from 1859 until 1995 when it was absorbed by the Union Pacific.
