DENVER & RIO GRANDE WESTERN RAILROAD LANTERN Signal Red CNX Lantern Globe
Offered is a vintage piece of Colorado Railroad History , a Denver & Rio Grande Western. The frame is an Adlake 300 Kero and is embossed on the shoulder of the lid. The lantern frame is in excellent condition; clean metal, lots of original tin, stands straight, no extra holes drilled, major dents, bent, broken or missing parts. For some unknown reason, the bottom is not stamped with the usual patent information and manufacture date, likely just got skipped along the assembly line.
Based on the lid marking and frame, I believe this lantern was likely manufactured prior to 1950. It comes with an Adlake 300 Fuel Fount and burner (takes a 5/8 flat wick). Ount and burner appear to be in working order; fount contains its original factory wadding, and the wick easily moves up and down. There are no visible holes so it should hold fuel and burn if desired but has not been tested. The Signal Red Lantern Globe is in excellent condition and cast. The globe is free of scratches, cloudiness, chips or cracks. As with any globe that was used in railroad service, there may be some minor scuff marks and chipping on the top and bottom rims that are a no show when seated in the lantern frame.
