The fuel fount and burner are in excellent working condition, would hold fuel and burn if desired. The wick easily moves up and down when the adjuster is turned. The signal blue or cobalt blue extended base lantern globe is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or cloudiness. As with any globe that saw railroad service there may be the usual no show nicks on the top and bottom rims that wont show when the globe is seated in a lantern frame.
There are also some bubbles and casting flaws in the glass. This lantern came from the collection of Ray Piltz, who was a well-known Locomotive Engineer and collector who worked for the McCloud River Railroad, a logging road in Northern California.
It is believed this lantern may have been used on the McCloud, as they did not use marked lanterns. Be sure to view all photographs closely as they are part of the item description.
