Vintage Adams #11 Steel Guard railroad lantern from my collection marked EOT Co East Ohio Traction Co. The lid, spring, top globe retainer, heat shield and bottom ring were rusted and pitted so they were coated with a microthin coat of zinc paint to inhibit further rusting. You can see the rough texture due to the pitting in the photos. The original tin finish on the frame uprights was good enough that painting was not necessary. Bottom outside of font had some minor pitting as shown in the photos and was also coated with zinc.
The wick raiser raises and lowers the wick with ease. The clear globe is unmarked and has no manufacturers mark on it.
It is very sturdy with thick glass. There is one chip on the e bottom of the globe as shown in the pictures. The Commercial and Financial Chronicle dated Oct. 1905 Pg 27, states the East Ohio Traction Co. Was incorporated in Jan 1902 as a consolidation of the Cleveland and Eastern Ry, the Cleveland and Chagrin Falls Electric RR, and the Chagrin Falls and Eastern Electric Ry.
The company owned 46 miles of track from Cleveland to Chardon, Burton, and Middlefield, Ohio and 40 miles from Cleveland to Hiram and Garretsville via Chagrin Falls. Total track operated including sidings was 96 miles. The item "East Ohio Traction Co. #11 Adams Steel Guard Railroad Lantern" is in sale since Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
