EL PASO & NORTH EASTERN 1897 ADAMS & WESTLAKE RAILROAD LANTERN RARE. Tall order in the lantern department here. Up for offer is a last patent date 1897 Adams & Westlake lantern embossed nicely on the lid, "EP&NERR" for the El Paso & North Eastern Railroad. These are tough frames to find, and show up less than the El Paso & South Western counterpart.
The frame has some issues to note. Was probably bent at one time and straightened out, has a horizontal that has a little bend to it, and someone got a little happy with the wire wheel years ago. All to be noted, but still solid without pinholes, major dents, or other damage. The frame is complete with the original wrapped bail, globe retainer assembly, lid latch, and the correct & original'97 A&W twist off font, burner included.
Comes with a nice, clear unmarked extended base globe in very good condition. This was a road rich in history, a short line that started around 1897 to connect El Paso, Texas with Alamogordo, New Mexico, also allowing for tourist excursions to the Sacramento Mountains, and some timber extraction.
When a line connecting to the lucrative coal fields was secured, the holding company and its system folded into the El Paso & South Western Railroad, an affiliate of the Phelps Dodge Corporation. Despite some issues, still a great lantern to display on the shelf and enjoy for the Southwest enthusiast or the New Mexico lantern collector as it may be a long time before another one shows up!
