There are holes stamped throughout the bottom and sides of housing to allow heat to escape. Stamped on the lantern carbide as well as the brass section is Osnabrucker Metallwerke, J. The underside of the carbide container is marked "Osmeka 1959".
The piece measures 3 3/4" X 3 1/8" X 8 1/2 (not including the handle). Fabulous condition extremely desirable original hole for hang in made bigger to accommodate the nail head the miner used to hang this lantern.
A great sign of authenticity. All doors open properly, wooden handle is free of cracks, body of the lamp shows scratches, rubbings, rust spots of oxidation. The interior shows some dents and spots of oxidation. I make no claims to operation however amazing condition. I do my very best to be accurate describing this VINTAGE GERMAN RAILROAD LANTERN and I love to learn.
