Offered is a unique piece of railroad history; a Missouri Kansas & Texas Railroad Lantern. The lantern frame is a Handlan Bellbottom and is embossed on the shoulder of the lid MK&TRR.
The lantern frame is in overall good condition; nice clean metal, retains much of its original tinning and stands straight. There are a couple of issues to note: The bottom of both the frame and fount have been repaired (see photos), still displays well. It has a correct Handlan drop in fount and brass burner embossed HANDLAN ST. The wick easily moves up and down but I doubt the fount will hold fuel.
It comes with a clear etched MK&TRY melon style lantern globe. The lantern globe is in fair condition with no cracks or scratches but there is a chip on the bottom rim and some cloudiness near the top rim, most of which is hidden when the globe is in the lantern frame (see photos). As with any globe that saw railroad service, there may be some roughness or chipping on the rims which will not show when the globe is in a frame. The MK&T existed from 1869 to1989 when it became part of the Missouri Pacific. It became part of Union Pacific when the MP was absorbed by the UP in 1997.Be sure to view all photographs closely as they are part of the item description.
