Offered is a vintage piece of American Railroad History , a Missouri Kansas & Texas Railroad Lantern with a Clear Etched MK&TRY Lantern Globe. The frame is a Handlan-Buck Bellbottom and is embossed on the shoulder of the lid MK&TRR. The lantern frame is in excellent condition; nice original aged patina, stands straight. It has a correct Handlan drop in fount and brass burner embossed HANDLAN ST.
The wick easily moves up and down when the adjuster is turned, there is a small repair to the bottom of the fount, there are no visible holes but it has not been tested. It comes with a clear etched MK&TRY melon style lantern globe. The lantern globe is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or scratches. The globe shows some light hazing.
As with any globe that was used in railroad service, there may be some roughness or chipping on the rims which will not show when the globe is in a frame. The Missouri Kansas &Texas Railway existed from 1869 to1989 when it became part of the Missouri Pacific. It became part of Union Pacific when the MP was absorbed by the UP in 1997.
