Offered is a vintage piece of American Railroad History ; a Missouri Pacific Railroad Lantern , embossed on the shoulder MOPAC , the railroads nickname. The lantern frame is a Handlan, flat top, single wire guard, twist off fount model with a last patent date of 1912. The frame is in exceptionally clean condition; retains most of its original tinning, stands straight and has no extra holes drilled, bent, broken or missing parts.
It has the correct Handlan threaded fount and brass burner embossed Handlan St. Louis MO on the thumbwheel. The fount and burner are in working condition and would hold fuel and burn if desired. The burner takes a 5/8 flat wick, which easily moves up and down when the adjuster is turned. The lantern globe is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, or cloudiness.
As with any globe that saw railroad service, there may be some minor chipping on the rims which will not show when the globe is in a frame. The Missouri Pacific was originally part of the Atlantic & Pacific prior to 1876. It existed from 1876 until 1997 when it became part of the Union Pacific which continues to operate many portions of the MP today. Be sure to view all photographs closely as they are part of the item description. The item "MISSOURI PACIFIC RAILROAD LANTERN Clear Cast MP Lantern Globe" is in sale since Sunday, March 28, 2021.
