Offered is a unique piece of railroad history; a NORTHERN PACIFIC Railroad Lantern with a Clear Cast Extended Base Lantern Globe. The lantern frame is an Armspear flat vertical, double wire guard, twist off and is embossed on the shoulder of the lid NPRY. The lantern frame is in excellent condition; nice clean metal, stands straight and has no pitting, extra holes drilled, dents, bent, broken or missing parts. There is NOT the usual Inventory or Control Number crudely stamped on the shoulder of the lid as most of these frames unfortunately are. It comes a correct Armspear twist off fount and slip style burner with the large cast Armspear thumb wheel.

It is stamped with a last patent date of 1913 stamped on the brass fount strap. Fount & burner are fully functional; wick easily adjusts up and down, will hold fuel and burn if desired.

The Clear Extended Base Lantern Globe is cast NPRR in serif letters in a rectangular panel. It is in excellent condition; free of scratches, cloudiness, chips and cracks. There may be the usual small rim nicks from use on the railroad which will not show when the globe is seated in the lantern frame.

The extended base fully seats in the lantern frame for a nice fit. The Northern Pacific existed from 1872 to 1970 when it became part of Burlington Northern. Burlington Northern was merged with the Santa Fe to become Burlington Northern Santa Fe in 1997. Be sure to view all photographs closely as they are part of the item description.
