Offered is a vintage piece of American Railroad History ; a rare Northern Pacific Railroad Lantern with a Flashed Red Cast Extended Base Lantern Globe. The frame is an Adams & Westlake The Adams flat vertical, double wire guard, twist off and is embossed on the shoulder of the lid in large letters NPRR. It is in excellent condition; nice clean metal, stands straight and has no pitting, extra holes drilled, dents, bent, broken or missing parts. The frame has a last patent date of 1897 and comes with a correct 1897 A&W twist off fount and brass E.
Fount & burner are fully functional; wick easily adjusts up and down, will hold fuel and burn if desired. The Flashed Red Cast Extended Base Lantern Globe is nicely cast NPRR in serif letters in a rectangular panel.
It is in excellent condition; free of scratches, cloudiness, chips and cracks. There may be the usual small rim nicks from use on the railroad which will not show when the globe is seated in the lantern frame. A rare pre 1900 set that will be a top shelf addition to any collection. The Northern Pacific existed from 1872 to 1970 when it became part of Burlington Northern.
