OREGON RAILROAD & NAVIGATION CO. RAILROAD LANTERN Clear Cast OR&N Globe

Offered is a vintage piece of Western American Railroad History; an OREGON RAILROAD & NAVIGATION COMPANY (ORR&NCo) Railroad Lantern with a Clear Cast OR&N Lantern Globe. The frame is an Adams & Westlake The Adams double wire guard model with a drop-in fuel fount. It has a last patent date of 1909 and is embossed on the shoulder ORR&NCo. There is an Inventory or Control Number stamped on the shoulder of the lid 2576. The lantern frame is in excellent condition; overall clean, smooth metal, stands straight and has no major dents, loose joints, extra holes drilled or missing parts.

It comes with a correct threaded fuel fount and Adlake burner. The fount and burner appear to be in working order and should hold fuel and burn if desired, however its untested and no guarantee it will hold fuel.

The wick easily moves up and down. Nice early and heavy globe that is in excellent condition free of chips, cracks, scratches or cloudiness. As with any lantern globe that was used in actual railroad service, there may be some minor roughness or rim chips that will not show when the lantern is seated in the lantern frame. It was fully absorbed into the UP in 1936.

ORR&NCo lantern frames seem to be the rarest of the three and there are no known examples of any matching ORR&NCo Lantern Globes. When these show up with marked globes they are either OR&N, OR&NCo or OWRR&NCo. Be sure to view all photographs closely as they are part of the item description.
