Offered is a rare and unique piece of western railroad history; an OREGON SHORT LINE Dietz Vesta Railroad Lantern with matching Etched OSL Lantern Globe. The frame is a hard to find early tall Dietz Vesta and is embossed on the lid OSL. It has a last patent date of 1910. The lantern frame is in excellent condition; retains lots of original tin, nice clean metal, stands straight and has no major dents, extra holes drilled, bent, broken or missing parts. It comes with a correct Vesta early style smooth sided twist off fuel fount with brass locking strap and burner which are in working order, would hold fuel and burn if desired; wick easily moves up and down (takes a 3/8 inch flat wick).
The Clear Etched Lantern Globe is guaranteed to be 100% authentic and is nicely etched OSL. There may be the usual no show minor nicks and chips on the rims from use on the railroad that do not show when the globe is seated in the lantern frame.
Vesta lantern frames are far more common among eastern roads, the Oregon Short Line is one of, or possibly the only western road to use this model and they rarely show up for sale, especially with the original matching railroad marked frame and globe. The Oregon Short Line started in 1882 as a subsidiary of the Union Pacific Railroad and was fully absorbed into the UP in 1936. Be sure to view all photographs closely as they are part of the item description. The item "OREGON SHORT LINE RAILROAD LANTERN Clear Etched OSL Vesta Globe" is in sale since Saturday, July 25, 2020.
