WE WILL BE SURE YOU ARE IN GOOD HANDS!! Here is a switch lantern from Mike's collection of excellent railroad artifacts! THE GLASS CHIMNEY IS WRAPPED IN BLUE PAPER, POSSIBLY BY THE ORIGINAL MAKER!! These lanterns from The Chicago, Milwaukee, and St Paul Railroad are a very unique type of lantern, because, according to Mike, they were made by the Milwaukee Road themselves for their own use!!

Normally, railroads ordered from Handlan, ADLAKE, and other lantern companies, that built lanterns to specifications dictated by the ARRA.... This lantern is in excellent shape!

A picture of the base shows the cast foot at the bottom...... Mike says that to some people it would look like a piece is chipped off the foot on one of the legs, BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE!!! It is poor workmanship by the foundry casting this piece, meaning the pattern used was either somewhat worn down, or just not well made!! Mike has another lantern just like this one, and it has the same defect as this one, PLUS he has seen other lanterns with the very same defect looking the SAME way!! It engages a disconnect clutch from the stem that operates from outside the lantern..

The fount is painted black..... Mike says it almost looks like a factory job, but it is likely another reason, since he says the ones he has seen were always just shiny steel... Mike never lit most of his lanterns, so the chimney is still wrapped!! This is a rare, unusually nice shape, antique lantern, which will be an excellent addition to a switch lantern collection!
