EMBOSSED ON TOP LID - "The ADLAKE Non-Sweating Lamp Chicago"! One Adlake Chicago Caboose/Observation Car/Campaign Car railroad lantern for Railroad Observation Cars, used for whistle stop tours and caboose markers (WHICH THIS IS A PARTICULAR LANTERN IS A SWITCH LANTERN - SIMILIAR TO THE MARKERS) - in the early days of the railroad industry and are a very important part in American political history and with some of some of the first railroad cars to be electrified. The basic form of these lanterns would generally have been kerosene first and later modified for the whistle stop tours.
Eisenhower was still using Railroad Observations in his campaign in the 50's. There are two - five inch amber glass lenses and two five inch red glass lens in the lamp. The lamp on the top says The. 4 is on the side of the lid - as shown in the photo's!
