Offered is a vintage piece of American Railroad History , a SANTA FE Railroad Lantern with a Signal Red Etched Lantern Globe. The frame is a Dressel and is embossed on the shoulder of the lid AT&SFRY , which stands for Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway , the full corporate name of the Santa Fe. The lantern frame is in excellent condition; clean smooth metal, all joints are tight, stands straight and has no extra holes drilled, major dents, bent, broken or missing parts. It comes with a correct Dressel Fount and Badger Burner, uses a 7/8 flat wick. The fount and burner are in excellent working condition and would hold fuel and burn if desired.
The wick easily moves up and down when the adjuster is turned. The lantern globe is in excellent condition, free of scratches, cloudiness, chips, or cracks. As with any globe that saw railroad service, there may be some minor roughness on the rims which will not show when the globe is seated in the lantern frame. The Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad existed from 1870 to 1997 when it merged with Burlington Northern to form Burlington Northern - Santa Fe or BNSF.
