Offered is a vintage piece of American Railroad History ; a Southern Pacific Railroad Lantern with a Clear Cast SPCo CNX Lantern Globe. The frame is an Adlake Reliable; 3 pc. Top, single wire guard, wire bottom, with a drop in fuel fount. It is embossed on the shoulder SPCo.The lantern frame is in excellent condition, clean metal, stands straight, has no extra holes drilled, major dents, bent, broken or missing parts. There is an Inventory or Control Number stamped on the shoulder of the lid 24869. It comes with a threaded fount and brass P&A (Plum & Atwood) burner. The fount & burner appear to be in working order; wick easily adjusts up and down when the adjuster is turned and there are no visible holes or repairs.
It should hold fuel and burn if desired but has not been tested. The Clear Cast Lantern Globe is in excellent condition and is free of chips, cracks, scratches, or cloudiness. It is nicely cast SPCo in an oval panel and has the CNX Corning Glass Logo cast on the opposite side along with MADE IN USA, and the number 0. As with any lantern globe that was used in railroad service, there may be some roughness on the rims which will not show when the globe is seated in the lantern frame.
