The burner has a wick but it doesnt move properly when the adjuster is turned. These are good for display but may need to be replaced if one desires to burn the lantern. The Clear Lantern Globe is etched SP&S on one side and SAFETY FIRST on the opposite. The lantern globe is in excellent condition; free of cloudiness, chips and cracks.
There are some minor scratches from years of use on the railroad as well as bubbles and swirls from the manufacturing process. There may be some small rim nicks from use on the railroad which will not show when the globe is seated in the lantern frame. The predecessor of the Spokane Portland & Seattle Railway was first organized in 1897 as the Columbia Railway & Navigation Company.
The name changed to Portland & Seattle from 1907 to 1908. The Spokane Portland & Seattle existed from 1908 to 1970 when it became part of Burlington Northern.
