Vintage Railway Signal Lamp Lantern Sherwoods LTD Burner Industrial Authentic

A fantastic vintage metal railway signal / inspection lamp with wonderfully aged original surface and loads of industrial character. The lamp has a substantial rectangular metal body with glazed front and side panels, hinged access door, carrying handle and internal burner assembly. The burner is marked "Sherwoods Limited", a well-known British maker associated with lamps and burners, which is a great surviving original detail. Inside, the lamp retains the ceramic-topped burner fitting, brass components and adjustment mechanism. The removable top cap is also present, along with the side filler cap to the lower reservoir.

The whole piece has a superb untouched appearance, with extensive age-related wear, surface rust, paint loss, marks and patination throughout. For me, that is exactly what makes this one so appealing - it has not been over-restored and still looks like a genuine working industrial object. The glazed front door opens as shown, giving access to the internal burner.

Approximate measurements from the photographs are around 20cm wide and 12cm deep, excluding the carrying handle. A cracking piece for a railwayana collection, industrial interior, workshop, man cave, pub display or cabinet of curiosities.
